February 28, 2008 The MARS Program is a finalist in a global competition of programs for helping young men at risk.
MARS is one of 14 finalists selected out of 364 applicants from 39 nations for Ashoka's Changemakers "Young Men at Risk:
Transforming the Power of a Generation" on-line competition. The public is invited to vote for the winners. Voting is
open through March 10, 2008 - VOTE TODAY!. Anyone can register to vote for three innovations at www.changemakers.net/ competition/men.
The three projects with the most votes will be announced on March 11. Each will receive a $5,000 Changemakers award.
Winners will also have the opportunity to compete for additional funding available through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
May 16, 2007 M.A.R.S. hosted the first ever Poetry Sex Slam in collaboration with the Corvallis poetry group, "Pints and Poetry". Festivities took place at Iovinos Ristorante in Corvallis. Over 100 participants attended. Audience members judged poets delivering messages on responsible sex, love, and sexuality in the form of spoken-word poetry.
February 7, 2007 M.A.R.S. presents to Benton County teens at the annual Teen Summit, Corvallis, OR. Their interactive presentation educations teens about the risks associated with sexual activity.
January 1, 2007 The M.A.R.S. Female Referral Program is launched at Oregon State University's Student Health Services. The Female Referral Program is still available through Benton Family Medicine, Samaritan OB/GYN and Samaritan Family Medicine.
November 2, 2006 M.A.R.S. presents at the Society of Public Health Educators Annual Meeting in Boston, MA. Presentation highlights program evaluation results.
October 23, 2006 M.A.R.S. presents at the Oregon Public Health Association Annual Meeting in Corvallis, OR. Two presentations address social marketing sexual and reproductive health to males and program expansion and replication in Deschutes and Jackson Counties.
August 12, 2006 M.A.R.S. is a sponsor of the Corvallis Boys and Girls Club Hoop Jam. The M.A.R.S. Guys join the fun and friendly competition by entering their own team.
June 1, 2006 M.A.R.S. launches a new social marketing campaign featuring the "spoken-word" poetry of Outreach Worker, Brian Dekker. Commercials were produced by former Outreach Worker, Joe Duerst. Click here to view commercials.
